About the Station

WNHU is the award-winning student-run radio station of University of New Haven, broadcasting on 88.7 FM and streaming worldwide through WNHU.org. Founded in 1973 as a student organization, WNHU has grown into a creative, student-driven station that gives students real hands-on experience in broadcasting, production, sports media, journalism, and entertainment programming.

Broadcasting from the Lois Evalyn Bergami Broadcast Media Center at 46 Ruden Street, WNHU operates with a 1,700-watt signal serving the Greater New Haven area and beyond. All programming is created by students, offering a wide mix of music, talk shows and specialty programming.

WNHU is more than a radio station. It’s a place where students come together through a shared love of music, creativity, and storytelling, while building real-world experience in a not only professional but fun environment.

Mission

WNHU exists to give University of New Haven students a hands-on, student-run space to explore broadcasting, media production, and storytelling.

It is a place where students can come together through their shared love of music, create meaningful content, and find their voice in a professional yet fun environment.

 

Guided by its student-driven structure, WNHU focuses on giving members real responsibility in shaping programming while helping them grow creatively, personally, and professionally in preparation for careers in media and communication.

As a student-run station, WNHU aims to empower students to take full ownership of programming, leadership, and creative direction while maintaining a fun, supportive, and professional environment.

 

By staying rooted in its student community and passion for music and storytelling, WNHU will continue to evolve as a place where students not only gain experience—but truly find their voice and shape the future of student media.
