WNHU History
Our History
WNHU 88.7 FM signed on in 1973 as a student-run radio station at the University of New Haven. Built on a foundation of creativity, independence, and hands-on learning, the station quickly became a space where students could explore broadcasting, develop their skills, and share their voices with the campus and surrounding community.
Over the past 50 years, WNHU has grown from a small campus station into a dynamic, award-winning broadcaster featuring a wide range of music, talk, and specialty programming. While the technology and studios have evolved, the station’s mission has stayed the same: to give students real-world experience in radio and provide a platform for freeform, creative expression.
Today, WNHU continues to thrive as a training ground for future broadcasters and media professionals, while staying true to the spirit that started it all with student voices on the air.
